Barcode scanning
Scan an asset tag or QR code with your phone camera to jump straight to that asset, or create it on the spot if it is not in the system yet.

Typing an asset tag into a search box while holding the asset is the slowest part of working in the field. AssetCenter can read the tag with your device camera instead and take you straight to the record.
Where to find it
The scan button is the round green barcode icon in the top navigation bar, next to the notification bell.
It only appears on phone and tablet sized screens. On a desktop-width window it is hidden, because it works through the device camera and is meant to be used while you are standing in front of the asset. If you cannot see the button, that is why — open AssetCenter on your phone, or narrow the browser window.
It is worth installing AssetCenter to your home screen first. Scanning is the workflow this is most useful for, and launching from an icon is quicker than finding a browser tab.
Scanning
Tap the scan button and the camera preview opens. Point it at the barcode or QR code and hold steady — there is no shutter button, the code is read as soon as the camera resolves it. Tap Cancel to close the camera without scanning.
Your browser will ask for camera permission the first time. If you decline it, the preview stays black; you will need to allow camera access for the site in your browser settings before scanning will work.
What happens next
AssetCenter matches the scanned code against both the asset tag and the serial number of your assets, so either will find the record.
If it matches an asset, you go straight to that asset's page, ready to log an event, change an assignment, or add a note from the actions button.
If nothing matches, you are asked Asset not found — would you like to create it? Choosing Create opens the new asset form with the scanned code already filled into the asset tag field, so you only have to add the category, name and whatever else you track.
That second path is what makes receiving new equipment quick: unbox it, scan the manufacturer barcode, and the record starts with its real tag already attached rather than one typed in later from memory.
