Label sheet layouts come from the gLabels template database, used under the MIT licence. Brand names and part numbers belong to their owners and are used only to identify compatible sheets.
How to print asset tags that line up
- Match the sheet. Search for the number on the label pack, such as 5160, L7160 or OL875. If it isn’t listed, search for the label size, such as 2 x 4, or choose Enter a custom size and copy the measurements from the pack.
- Test on plain paper first. Turn on label outlines, print one page, and hold it against a label sheet up to the light. The outlines should sit on the die-cuts.
- Print at actual size. In the print dialog choose 100% or Actual size, with margins set to None or Default. Fit to page shrinks the sheet and the labels drift further out of line down the page.
- Feed one sheet at a time through the manual or bypass tray if your printer has one, which keeps thicker label stock straight.
- Scan a label before tagging everything. Open your phone camera or scanning app and check the tag reads back correctly.
Barcode or QR code?
Both hold the same thing, the asset tag, and both scan with a phone camera. The choice is about the label and the scanner.
- QR codes fit on small square labels, still scan when part of the code is scratched, and read from any angle. They can hold any character, including accented letters.
- Code 128 barcodes suit long, narrow labels and older laser scanners, which cannot read QR codes. They encode letters, numbers and standard symbols, and pack runs of digits tightly, so numeric tags stay short.

Choosing an asset numbering format
A good asset tag is short, unique and meaningless. A prefix and a zero-padded number, such as AC-000184, sorts cleanly and never needs changing. Avoid building the department, location or year into the tag: those change, and then the label is wrong. Never reuse a number after an asset is disposed of, and keep track of the last number you printed so the next batch carries on from it.

A QR code fits more on a small square label, tolerates scratches and scans from any angle, and it can hold characters a barcode cannot, such as accented letters.

Yes. Add a PNG, JPG or SVG and it prints beside the top line on every label. Extra white or transparent space around the logo is trimmed automatically, and you can print it in black and white for thermal printers. The logo stays in your browser: it is never uploaded.
